This article was about the start of the MPO's season. They will have their first concert on Friday September 30, 2016 at the Teatru Manoel. The MPO will be playing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 and Brahms' Symphony No.3. It will be conducted by Brian Schembri and will feature Charlene Farrugia on piano. Beethoven's 4th piano concerto is one of the most important pieces of literature out there today since it premiered in 1807. Charlene Farrugia is one of Malta's best pianist in many ways. She has been part of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra for 15 years and has performed as a soloist many times nationally and internationally. Brahms' Symphony No. 3 is one of his greatest works known for its artistry and will be conducted by MPO's artistic director and principal conductor, Brian Schembri. He was the youngest scholar to ever obtain the Licentiate of the Royal Schools of music and he also received a degree in piano and conducting at the Kiev and Moscow Conservatories. He is well known as a concert pianist and conductor nationally and internationally.
I am very interested in this article because I am in an orchestra and have played both of these great works by these wonderful composers. I did not know that Malta had a national orchestra with such great players before reading this article. Brahms' No. 3 is a very emotional and beautiful symphony and a good way to start off a new concert season. I think it was smart of this orchestra to start the season with two very challenging but well-known pieces to create more interest in their orchestra. This article informed the readers with a little bit of background knowledge so they could understand why this event is of significance.
This ties to the culture of the country because music is an important part of any culture. It reflects that the Maltese society thinks classical music is important because if they didn't think that, it wouldn't be published in their newspaper. The two pieces of music being performed are important to any culture worldwide because music is universal. The MPO is made up of musicians from 10 different countries which unites the culture of many nations.
